Red River Gorge Attractions

With amazing activities like ziplining across the Red River Gorge, kayaking through caves, rock climbing, hiking, and horseback riding, there's always something to do here!

Stores & Towns

Koop's General Store

The best place for gas, small items and awesome deli meat and sandwiches is KOOP's. It is also a great spot to pick up worms for fishing. This is a gas station a few minutes from the resort. Go back out of the resort, turn left back onto 715, and when you hit HWY 11 turn left and go approximately three miles. You'll see Koop's on the right side. (They usually have great sandwiches too)

Beattyville

Follow instructions to Koop's above and just keep going on hwy 11 to Beattyville. Go right on Main Street and go about ½ mile and IGA will be on your left. (You will need to turn left before you pass it as the parking is behind the building).

Campton

Approximately same distance as Beattyville, but in the other direction. Go out of the resort and make a hard right turn onto 715 and follow that several miles through Rogers, KY (only a post office) to where the road ends into Hwy 15 (Marathon gas station on right). Turn Right, go several hundred yards and turn right onto Mountain Parkway. Maybe four miles to Campton exit. Follow the main road into town past the first stoplight. Dollar General will be on your left, then Save A Lot.

Restaurants

Miguels Pizza

Local favorite off of 715 by Natural Bridge. Great Pizza and salads (ALLOW BEER, BUT YOU HAVE TO BRING YOUR OWN) 1890 Natural Bridge Rd, Slade, KY 40376

Red River Rockhouse

Also off of 715. Healthier version; you can also have a beer.

La Cabana Mexican Restaurant

This place fills up quick. Excellent food and service. Do not be thrown off by the price tag, after a long hike I can eat, but I am yet to finish one of their plates. Most plates will feed two, possibly three depending on appetite.

Red Point BBQ

A great place to grab lunch.

Things To Do

Hiking

Susannah's Arch Trail. You can drive and park, then hike. Or you can walk to the Trailhead. You will go into the resort and through the gate (2865) if the gate is down. You will pass the first house on the right and then you will take the next right. Follow that road back until you see the signs for Susannah’s Arch on the right-hand side. This is a nice trail. It is about 1 ½ miles to the Arch. Fairly steep at times. You can also go down the ATV trail about 100-150 yards before you get to the Trailhead. Susannah's Arch trail will cross (left to right) at bottom just before the creek. You can pick up the rest of the trail there.

There are quite a few small trails in the resort. Just walking the hills in the resort has beautiful scenery and is a very good workout.

Hike, Walk, Relax.

Natural Bridge State Park

This is where you will find some of the trails that Red River Gorge is known for. I have spent 12 hour days out there and I still have not run out of new routes and views, but the best views are from the top of the natural bridge and from the cliff directly across that can be found by continuing over the bridge and on the trail for another mile or two!

2135 Natural Bridge Rd, Slade, KY 40376

Koomer Ridge Campground

Not too far from the cabins and has excellent trails for any level of activity!

  • Angel Windows Trail
  • Whistling Arch Trail
  • Bison Way to Indian Staircase
  • Tower Rock Trail
  • Moderate Hiking Trails:
  • Rock Bridge Trail
  • Copperas Falls
  • Gray’s Arch Trail Loop
  • Indian Staircase Trail
  • Auxier Ridge Trail
  • Hard Hiking Trails:

  • Martin’s Fork to Sheltowee

You also could google the address for these trails above.

There are maps in the cabin of different trails available in the RRG. Feel free to borrow them. However, please leave them for the next guests to use. If they are missing, they can be found at the resort entrance or the cabin office as well.

Zipline

Very cool zipline located in the resort. It starts with a few simple warm up ziplines, but they get better with each one. The zipline “trail” ends with two ziplines that actually go from one cliff side to the other over a beautiful canyon.

455 Cliffview Rd, Campton, KY 41301

Via Ferrata

In Torrent Falls - This is a horizontal rock-climbing wall. This is a huge hit amongst our guests. It is challenging, but not too much so. You start at the level one area and traverse your way up to Level 5. There are multiple areas for you to go down and rest, have lunch and return to your climb.

Nada Tunnel

We always recommend the 35 mile drive through the RRG, the sights are fantastic. There are a multitude of trail heads off of this road. The NADA tunnel is a must! Maps or Waze can be a great guide if you want to do the 35 mile drive or you can go straight to the Nada Tunnel. If you are traveling with kids, we always used to get out of the car and run through the nada tunnel ahead of our parents car and it was one of the best experiences of all our activities in the Gorge!

Swimming Hole

From Slade, travel west on KY-11/15 and then turn right onto KY-77. Follow KY-77 through Nada Tunnel and across the Red River to KY-715. Follow KY-715 for approximately 2.5 miles to a gravel road on the right that leads to a parking area. There will be a trail to the swimming hole. If you hike past the rock, there is a suspension bridge across the water. That is pretty cool as well. Good Luck and have fun!!

Fishing

Feel free to fish in the lakes/ponds at Cliffview. There are small bluegill and some decent sized bass. Most people do catch and release. Relax, Play, have fun, Have a great time!

What Is Via Ferrata?

Via Ferrata is a type of climbing with steel cables along a route with hand and foot rungs.

Climbers are equipped with cables to clip into and have iron hand and foot rungs to hold and step onto as they travel horizontally across the mountain.

Guests ages 10 years old and up can challenge themselves and try Via Ferrata on a climbing path that spans ¾ of a mile of the rugged sandstone cliff line.

You can choose a full or half-day for your climbing adventure. There are sections of the canyon that range in skill level for participants.

Before you start Via Ferrata Climbing, you get a brief 30-40 min orientation. After the training, you have a day pass for independent climbing on the course.

Climbers can choose a half-day that is up to 4.5 hours or a full day that is up to 8 hours.

Ride The Skylift To The Top Of Natural Bridge

If the chairlift is open, I recommend taking it for your way up to Natural Bridge. This will allow you to conserve your energy to hike around the top once you arrive.

You can ride the Skylift round trip or take it one way and hike back down.

This is a great option if you are traveling with family or friends who wouldn’t be able to make the hike up to the top but still want to see the view from the top of Natural Bridge.

There are more than 10 gorgeous treehouses in Red River Gorge to choose from for your next visit. Each treehouse has at least one bedroom and bathroom, and some of our rental choices include kitchens and designated dining areas. For those looking for a breathtaking view of the clifflines (Try “The Observatory Treehouse”). Climb a wooden spiral staircase to reach the top of the home where you’ll find a hammock lounge, stunning skylights, a private fire-pit, and wrap-around porch. This Kentucky treehouse is a great option for a romantic couples getaway or vacation with friends.

We also have family-friendly twin treehouses, called the Tradewinds Treehouses, with a fun slide-ride back down to the ground and a hot tub nestled in the forest. Families with kids of any age or adults who want to indulge their inner child will love these aerial cabins!
